thanks, Kiri + call for new session proposals

Wonderful 2nd session today of ‘Structured/Scored Improvisation’. Very interesting, complex and rewarding matter to delve into. Thanks, Kiri and all collaborators!

Next week, Sylvain Meret starts with his ‘dreamer/observer’ sessions, which will last until 21st of February. In between, on 7th February is the wrapping up of the Scores research, with guest audience welcome at the end of the session.

From end of February onwards, sessions are not filled in yet.A lot of ideas have reached my ears, but now would be the time to start planning it and make your plans concrete. Send me your dates and theme-proposals, then we can make a schedule for the spring season!

Warm greetings,

Thomas

Objects and stuff in November/December

Object/visual theatremakers and puppeteers Lindai Boogerman and Martine van Ditzhuyzen will lead with me an exploration of objects and improvisation in November/December. With the subtle relationship in mind that a puppeteer/object-player can have with ‘stuff’/things/material, we want to know how we can use this for interdisciplinary instant composition. We would like to involve and ask not only puppet players, but more so musicians, dancers, actors, lighting/visual people,… to interact with material that accompanies them on stage.

22nd of November 2012

6th of December 2012

13th of December 2012

Sessions (14:00-17:00) will be semi-open, meaning we would like to define the group of researchers beforehand. Preference is to people who can join all three sessions, but exceptions can be made. Just talk to us.

What are the Carpet Sessions? / Where is the studio?  (click here)

We will post more detailed information end of October. But you can already write your comments below to state your interest in the subject or if you have a question.

greetings!

Thomas, Martine, Lindai

new season of carpet sessions!

After the summer stop the Thursday sessions will start again on September, 13th, 2012 !

On 13th and 20th of September Marije Nie and Thomas Johannsen will revisit the theme of using Ketjak as a binding element for interdisciplinary improvisation performance. The interaction between an ongoing group performance action and solo’s that come out of it and dissolve in the whole again will be the focus. More info will be posted soon.

More sessions coming up till Christmas will include Michael Fischer, musician and instant conductor from Austria who will visit us in October, and Martine van Ditzhuyzen / Lindai Boogerman who will research with us principles of object/puppet theatre and link them to singing/voice improvisation.

Get in touch if you would like to join one of these sessions, or lead a research yourself!

Let’s have breakfast!

To round up the Carpet season and talk about next year, let’s have a breakfast at my place coming week. (if the weather is fine, it can be on the roof terrace, like last year’s Carpet Collective dinner 🙂 )

Friday, June 22nd – at 9:30

Bring your favourite fruit juice, cheese, jam or piece of bakery to put on the breakfast table.
I have fresh-ground coffee in house for fantastic latte’s and cappucino’s.

looking forward to seeing everybody,

Thomas

PS: If you cannot come, do let us know in a different way what your wishes/interests are for next year. Whether you would like this research to continue, and which way works for you best.

Dear improvisers/researchers,

after a little break, there are two new research cycles on the roll, that you are invited to join:

Maaike van de Westeringh will follow up by doing similar research with the background she has in ‘Passing Through’.

Leon already posted about his sessions (see below).

Please announce whether you will be joining a session or research cycle by leaving a comment to the respective posts. Also questions can be asked that way.
